Looking back over this year's nesting season it is safe to say that there are enough magical moments to last until next year. In keeping with Jane Goodall's quote I know the Wrightsville Beach Bird Stewards made an impact on the world of the shorebirds at the south end of the beach but the joy of watching such success and seeing so many chicks running around this season certainly made a difference in our lives as well.
Bill Segur was a frequent member of our Monday morning bird walks and his photographs taken though the "end" of the season (between August 5 and August 26) depict the birds from young chicks to juveniles to adults, along with some visiting Royal and Sandwich Terns... a true testament, no doubt, to the expansive nesting season we had this year.

We are especially excited to have watched several American Oystercatcher chicks "grow up" in our colony. These photographs of one of our Oystercatcher families were taken by Scott Mullens....
and this last photo of a Black Skimmer fledgling successfully skimming along the shore, also taken by Scott Mullens, is a perfect reminder that we made a difference this season!
